ISR LESSONS

The Self-Rescue® swimming program offered by Infant Swimming Resource consists of daily lessons from Monday to Friday, lasting 10 minutes each for an average duration of 6 weeks.

These lessons are individualized, focusing on safety and conducted by certified instructors. ISR prioritizes health, ongoing assessments of the program, and educating parents to ensure the best and safest results for children.

This program is designed for kids aged 6 months to 6 years.

For infants aged 6 to 12 months, the lessons aim to teach them how to roll onto their backs to float, rest, and breathe until help arrives.

For children between 1 and 6 years old, the emphasis is on the swim-float-swim technique. They learn to swim with their heads down, roll onto their backs to float and breathe, and then roll back to continue swimming until they reach the pool's edge, where they can either crawl out or wait for rescue.

Statistics show that most aquatic accidents involve children wearing regular clothing. Therefore, as children become proficient, they practice their ISR skills while fully clothed.

MAINTENANCE LESSONS

After completing ISR lessons, you might notice that your child’s swimming at home differs from what they demonstrated during lessons. This is completely natural. As your child gains confidence and becomes more comfortable in the water, they will start to explore and experiment with their movements. This does not mean they have "forgotten" their ISR skills, but it may indicate that a Maintenance Lesson would be beneficial.

Maintenance Lessons help refine your child's skills and prevent any developing issues in their swimming technique. Over time, normal play in the pool may lead to habits that interfere with proper swimming. For example, your child might start swimming longer distances without rolling over to breathe or may attempt to swim with their head above water. These behaviors, while part of natural exploration, can impact their ability to swim and float correctly.

During Maintenance Lessons, I will guide you on how to swim with your child in a way that reinforces proper technique and how to create a swimming environment that discourages negative habits. There is no fixed schedule for these lessons—they are based on your child’s needs. In many cases, a single session or two is enough to correct behaviors. However, some parents prefer to schedule Maintenance Lessons weekly or biweekly throughout the summer to continuously reinforce strong swimming habits.

REFRESHER LESSONS

Refresher lessons are crucial for sustaining and enhancing your child's ISR Self-Rescue® skills. As children develop from infants to toddlers and then to young children, they experience rapid changes, gaining strength and coordination, as well as improving cognitive skills. As they grow, it is important for children enrolled in ISR to return periodically for Refresher Lessons.

Ensure your child gains competence, confidence, and vital aquatic safety skills through Infant Swimming Resource's Self-Rescue® program, the leading provider of survival swimming lessons for children aged 6 months to 6 years!
